Frequently Asked Questions

We believe in total operational transparency and a zero-friction experience. Find everything you need to know about navigating Studio Marvila below.

  • In our standard wheel sessions, you can choose up to 3 of your favorite creations to keep. We will fire and glaze them for you!

  • Yes! At the end of your session, you will pick your preferred glaze color from our studio palette, and our team will handle the rest.

  • You have the option to return and glaze/trim the pieces yourself! Just let us know after the session, and we will arrange it with you.

Natural Wine Bar & Events

  • Nope! Studio Marvila’s natural wine bar operates with a welcoming, open-door policy. Walk-ins are highly encouraged. Whether you are joining a workshop or just exploring the Marvila neighborhood, you are welcome to drop in, slow down, and enjoy a glass.

  • We serve a hand-picked, rotating selection of organic, biodynamic, and low-intervention wines from passionate independent producers in Portugal and Europe. Our wines are made with wild fermentation and little to no additives. We also serve natural Vermouth and Medronho.

  • Yes! Many of our organic and biodynamic wines are available for takeaway. Just ask our team what is currently in stock.

  • Yes, we do! We frequently host private tastings, wine-focused evenings, and dinners curated with local chefs and natural winemakers. Reach out to us via our contact page to set something up.

  • Not at all! Our standard Pottery Wheel classes and Sip & Spin sessions are designed specifically for absolute beginners. Our English-speaking instructors will guide you step-by-step through the wheel-throwing process. (Note: Our Open Studio passes are the only exception, as they require prior experience to work autonomously).

  • A standard session lasts approximately 2 hours — just enough time to dive into the clay, sink into a creative flow, and relax without rushing the process.

  • Sip & Spin is our signature, highly social take on the pottery wheel session. It pairs hands-on wheel throwing with our natural wine bar. You'll enjoy a small wine tasting followed by two glasses of carefully selected natural wine as you create.

  • Wear anything comfortable and relaxed that you don’t mind getting a bit messy! We highly recommend closed-toe shoes and keeping your fingernails trimmed short to make working with spinning clay much easier. We will provide full-coverage aprons for all participants.

  • Absolutely. While our scheduled workshops are kept small and intimate, we love hosting larger private groups, birthdays, bachelorette parties, and corporate team-building events. If you have a group larger than 6 people, please contact us to request a custom proposal.

  • Our Intensive Courses are immersive, multi-week programs designed for beginners and intermediates looking to dive deep. Classes run for 3 hours each morning (10:00–13:00) and are capped at just 6 students to ensure intimate, one-on-one guidance covering the full ceramic cycle (centering, throwing, trimming, glazing).
